Christ’s Atonement

Christ came lived as a righteous man amongst us and took the punishment of sin when he died on the cross.

Isaiah 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a Man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as it were a hiding of faces from Him, He being despised, and we esteemed Him not.

Isaiah 53:4 Surely He has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

Isaiah 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions; He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was on Him; and with His stripes we ourselves are healed.

Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, each one to his own way; and Jehovah has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed, and He was afflicted; yet He opened not His mouth. He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter; and as a sheep before its shearers is dumb, so He opened not His mouth.

Isaiah 53:8 He was taken from prison and from judgment; and who shall declare His generation? For He was cut off out of the land of the living; for the transgression of My people He was stricken.

Isaiah 53:9 And He put His grave with the wicked, and with a rich one in His death; although He had done no violence, nor was any deceit in His mouth.

Isaiah 53:10 Yet it pleased Jehovah to crush Him; to grieve Him; that He should put forth His soul as a guilt-offering. He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the will of Jehovah shall prosper in His hand.

Isaiah 53:11 He shall see the fruit of the travail of His soul. He shall be fully satisfied. By His knowledge shall My righteous Servant justify for many; and He shall bear their iniquities.

Isaiah 53:12 Therefore I will divide to Him with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong; because He has poured out His soul to death; and He was counted among the transgressors; and He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for transgressors.

Mark 10:32 and they were in the way going up to Jerusalem. And Jesus went before them. And they were amazed, and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took the Twelve again and began to tell them what would happen to Him,

Mark 10:33 saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem. And the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes. And they will condemn Him to death and will deliver Him to the nations.

Mark 10:34 And they will mock Him, and will scourge Him, and will spit on Him, and will kill Him. And the third day He shall rise again.

1Corinthians 15:20 But now Christ has risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruit of those who slept.

1Corinthians 15:21 For since death is through man, the resurrection of the dead also is through a Man.

1Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all will be made alive. 

The Holy Spirit will testify the judgement to us, all who follow Satan will be judged with him because judgement has been made concerning Satan empire. 

The Call to repentance and the preaching of the gospel.

Galatians 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

Romans 10:14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without preaching?

Romans 10:15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace and bring glad tidings of good things!"

Through the preaching of the law we can present Christ as good news. No one will see Jesus death and resurrection as good news for them unless hey understand there sinfulness.

Romans 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Let it not be said! But I did not know sin except through the law. For also I did not know lust except the law said, You shall not lust.

It is not music, great scenery, numbers, girls, or the promise of great blessings that leads a person to Christ but the call to repentance and the preaching of the gospel.

Mark 1:14 and after John was delivered up, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom of God,

Mark 1:15 and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God draws near. Repent, and believe the gospel.

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

When the Apostle Paul was before the governor Felix he did not "woo" him in but spoke of the judgment to concerning the sinfulness of mankind.

Act 24:25 and as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and the Judgment to come, Felix trembled and answered, go for this time, but taking time later, I will call for you.

Act 10:42 and He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained of God to be the Judge of the living and the dead.

It is important for us to go out into the streets and preach repentance and faith in Christ. We are not to sit in church and wait for believers to come to us, but us to go to the streets and preach. Often when a preacher preaches in a church he thinks that a person must come to the front to be saved. Their real motive is to take credit for his salvation so as to ask for more money from the congregation to continue his quest of increasing his self-esteem.

Romans 15:20 Yea, so I have been eager to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build on another man's foundation;

We are responsible for preaching, the Holy spirit convicts, but repentance is their choice not ours.

Ezekiel 33:2 Son of man, speak to the sons of your people, and say to them: When I bring the sword on it, on a land, and take one man from the people of the land, of their borders, and set him for their watchman;

Ezekiel 33:3 if, when he sees the sword come on the land, he blows the trumpet and warns the people,

Ezekiel 33:4 then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning, if the sword does come and take him away, his blood shall be on his own head.

Ezekiel 33:5 He heard the sound of the trumpet and did not take warning. His blood shall be on himself. But he who takes warning shall deliver his soul.

Ezekiel 33:6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming, and does not blow the trumpet and the people are not warned; if the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity. But I will require his blood at the watchman's hand.

Preaching to the criminals, drug addicts and Prostitutes

What man considers, as the worst of sinners will easily be drawn to Jesus because He offers them forgiveness when the world does not forgive them.

Luke 15:1 And all the tax-collectors and sinners drew near to Him in order to hear Him.

Luke 15:2 And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receives sinners and eats with them.

Mark 2:17 when Jesus heard, He said to them, They who are strong have no need of a physician, but the ones who have illness. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

However Jesus still calls for them to repent and turn from their sin or perish. We should accept those who want to repent of their sins, but if they don’t want to repent then they must also be told of the wrath to come.

Matthew 9:13 But go and learn what this is, I will have mercy and not sacrifice. For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. (there is none righteous)

1Corinthians 5:11 But now I have written to you not to associate intimately, if any man called a brother and is either a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such a one not to eat.

1Corinthians 6:9 Do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor abusers, nor homosexuals,

1Corinthians 6:10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

1Co 6:11 And such were some of you. But you are washed, but you are sanctified, but you are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

Jesus said that the tax collectors and sinners were entering the kingdom ahead of the Pharisees because it was easier for them to recognize they were sinners.

Luke 7:37 And behold, a woman, a sinner in the city, knowing that He reclined in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster vial of ointment.

Luke 7:38 And she stood behind Him, weeping at His feet, and she began to wash His feet with tears and wipe them with the hair of her head. And she ardently kissed His feet and anointed them with the ointment.

Luke 7:39 But seeing this, the Pharisee who had invited Him, spoke within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what kind of woman this is who touches him, for she is a sinner.

1John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1John 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Word is not in us.

Matthew 21:28 but what do you think? A man had two sons; and he came to the first and said, Son, go work in my vineyard today.

Matthew 21:29 He answered and said, I will not. But afterwards he repented and went.

Matthew 21:30 and he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir; and did not go.

Matthew 21:31, which of the two did the will of his father? They said to Him, The first. Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you that the tax-collectors and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

Preaching to the wealthy

God did not command his disciples to gain wealth so they can preach to the wealthy!

When we preach open air preaching we will inevitably reach the wealthy. The bible does tell us to into the entire world so we should preach everywhere. Jesus preached this way so we must also.

Luke 6:24 But woe to you who are rich! For you have received your consolation.

Luke 6:25 Woe to you who are full! For you shall hunger. Woe to you who laugh now! For you shall mourn and weep.

Luke 6:26 Woe to you when all men shall speak well of you! For so their fathers did to the false prophets.

During your arrest for the preaching of the gospel you can testify to the magistrate and all those in the courtroom. If you go to trial you can testify to many attorney Generals that must be aware of any case to do with religion.

Matthew 10:17 but beware of men. For they will betray you to sanhedrins, and they will flog you in their synagogues.

Matthew 10:18 and also you will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, for a testimony to them and to the nations. (Literal translation)

Often God led his disciple to rich men

Acts 8:27 and rising up he went. And, behold, an Ethiopian man, a eunuch, a potentate with Candace, the queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure, who had come to Jerusalem to worship!

Acts 8:28 and he was returning. And sitting on his chariot he read the prophet Isaiah.

Acts 8:29 and the Spirit said to Philip, Go near and join yourself to this chariot.

Acts 8:30 and running near Philip heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, Indeed, do you know what you are reading?

Acts 8:31 But he said, How should I be able except someone shall guide me? And he called Philip near, to come up to sit with him.

Acts 10:1 and a certain man named Cornelius was in Caesarea, a centurion of the Italian cohort,

Acts 10:2 one devout and fearing God, with all his household, both doing many merciful deeds to the people, and praying continually to God.

Acts 10:3 about the ninth hour of the day he saw plainly in a vision an angel of God coming to him and saying to him, Cornelius!

Acts 10:4 and he was gazing at him, and becoming terrified, he said, What is it, lord? And he said to him, Your prayers and your merciful deeds have come up for a memorial before God.

Acts 10:5 and now send men to Joppa and call for Simon, whose last name is Peter.

Acts 10:6 He is staying with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the seaside. He will tell you what you must do.

Conviction

Conviction is when a person comes to the understanding of his sin and it is brought before him in accusation, the Holy Spirit, through the preaching of the gospel confronts him with his sin.

Romans 3:19 But we know that whatever things the Law says, it says to those who are under the Law; so that every mouth may be stopped and all the world may be under judgment before God,

Acts 2:37 and hearing this, they were stabbed in the heart, and said to Peter and to the other apostles, Men, brothers, what shall we do?

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ to remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 8:21 you have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God.

Acts 8:22 therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.

Acts 8:23 for I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity.

Repentance

metanoeō

Thayer Definition:

1) To change one’s mind, i.e. to repent

2) To change one’s mind for better, heartily to amend with abhorrence of one’s past sins

Part of Speech: verb

Repentance is a reconsideration concerning your desire to sin (repentance) needs to take place before faith in Christ.

Moses, all the prophets, John the Baptist, Jesus and all his apostles preached repentance. Not only Grace came through Jesus but Truth also. John 1:17

Acts 3:19 therefore repent and convert so that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.

Mark 1:15 and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God draws near. Repent, and believe the gospel.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ to remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 17:30 truly, then, God overlooking the times of ignorance, now He strictly commands all men everywhere to repent,

Acts 26:20 but to those first in Damascus, and Jerusalem, and to all the country of Judea, and to the nations, I made known the command to repent and to turn to God, doing works worthy of repentance 

Faith (Believe)

After a person is convicted and turns from his sin (repentance) he sees the righteousness of Christ and sees the need for Gods mercy. God will draw him to Christ and he will put his faith in Jesus sacrifice.

Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 5:2 Through Him we also have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice on the hope of the glory of God.

John 3:16 for God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved, and your household.

Acts 16:32 and they spoke the Word of the Lord to him, and to all who were in his household.

Acts 16:33 and taking them in that hour of the night, he washed from their stripes. And he was baptized, he and all his, immediately.

Regeneration

Regeneration is the work of God in a person who turns from his sin and puts his faith in Jesus Christ.

Ezekiel 11:18 And they shall come there, and they shall take away all its (Israel) hateful things and all its abominations from it.

Ezekiel 11:19 And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. And I will remove the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them a heart of flesh,

Ezekiel 11:20 so that they may walk in My statutes and keep My ordinances, and do them. And they shall be My people, and I will be their God.

Ezekiel 11:21 And as to those whose heart is going after their hateful things, and also their heart is after their disgusting idols, I will give their way on their own heads, says the Lord Jehovah.

This is the work of God when he makes us a new creature with a new nature that desires to pursue holiness and fight the good fight of faith.

Ezekiel 36:25 And I will sprinkle clean waters on you, and you shall be clean. I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from your idols.

Ezekiel 36:26 And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. And I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.

Ezekiel 36:27 And I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you shall keep My judgments and do them.

2Corinthians 3:3 it having been made plain that you are the epistle of Christ, ministered by us, not having been written with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not on tablets of stone, but in fleshly tablets of the heart.

2Corinthians 3:4 And we have such trust through Christ toward God,

He is then a new creation and his spirit is alive with Christ, the incorruptible seed has been place within the believer.

2Corinthians 5:17 So that if any one is in Christ, that one is a new creature; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

2Corinthians 5:18 And all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

Galatians 6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision has any strength, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation.

1Peter 1:23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the living Word of God, and abiding forever.

Flesh and blood resurrection

Luke 24:37 But they were terrified and filled with fear, for they thought they saw a spirit.

Luke 24:38 And He said to them, Why are you troubled, and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?

Luke 24:39 Behold My hands and My feet, that I am He! Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see Me have.

Luke 24:40 And when He had spoken this, He showed them His hands and feet.

Luke 24:41 And while they still did not believe for joy, and wondered, He said to them, Have you any food here?

Luke 24:42 And they handed to Him a piece of a broiled fish and of a honeycomb.

Luke 24:43 And He took it and ate before them.

Conviction of sin Righteousness and the Judgement

Act 24:25 and as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and the Judgment to come, Felix trembled and answered, go for this time, but taking time later, I will call for you.

John 16:8 And when that One comes, He will convict the world concerning sin, and concerning righteousness, and concerning judgment.

John 16:9 Concerning sin, because they do not believe on Me;

John 16:10 concerning righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more;

John 16:11 concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.

We must be made aware of our sin so we will believe in faith for Gods mercy through Jesus Christ.

The Holy Spirit will testify to us of the righteousness of Christ and that we are sinners.
